I bought this for a couple reasons; 1 it's made by Riedel and 2 because of its shape. Not only is the shape a conversation topic but it also allows the wine to breath much more than if left in the bottle. I use my decanter for EVERY bottle of red I open regardless of age. The vast majority of the wines I drink are "young" wines and really benefit from breathing in the decanter for 2 - 5 hours.
